Name: Introduction to environmental management systems (EMS)
Description: This course is suitable for farmers and their advisors, private consultants and agency staff.
Cost:

$340 GST-free

This course is registered under the Commonwealth Government's FarmReady program. Eligible primary producers can be reimbursed for the cost of this course. See the FarmReady website for more details.

Course aims:
  • To introduce the concept of an environmental management system (EMS)
  • To help farmers develop their own EMS
  • To highlight the benefits of sustainable agriculture
Learning outcomes:
  • Identify the benefits of an EMS for a rural enterprise
  • Review the environmental management of a rural enterprise and assess the impacts of current farm activities
  • Recognise the types of costs involved in producing an EMS
  • Develop a program to improve the environmental performance of your farm
  • Develop emergency response plans for your farm
  • Identify key performance indicators to monitor progress
  • Identify the records and documents you need to keep for an EMS
  • Identify the differences between audits (internal and external), a systems review and a management review
  • Be aware of the Australian Standards for EMS.

  • What is driving EMS in agriculture
  • Key principles for developing an EMS
  • Reviewing environmental performance and risk
  • Setting objectives and targets

Day 2

  • Developing your environmental program
  • Managing communication, records and information
  • Documenting your EMS
  • Developing emergency plans
  • Monitoring and measurement
  • EMS auditing and verification audits
  • Reviewing the systems
Resources and method of delivery: Participants will receive a course manual.

This course is delivered indoors.
