Name: Introduction to irrigation pump performance
Description: Irrigators and other users of irrigation pumps can improve their knowledge, understanding and operation of their pumps and learn how to improve pump performance.
Cost: After NSW Government subsidy, $165 GST-free.
Course aims:
  • improve pump performance, and therefore improve irrigation systems performance and productivity
  • improve irrigators knowledge, understanding and operation of their pumps
  • better prepare irrigators to monitor, maintain and select their pumping equipment.
Learning outcomes:
  • assess your pumping requirements
  • outline the components of 'pumping head'
  • read and interpret manufacturers' pump curves
  • determine the operating efficiency of a pump
  • calculate the power requirements of an irrigation pump
  • calculate the operating costs of a pump
  • describe the common types of pumps used in irrigation systems
  • describe installation, maintenance and troubleshooting procedures for pumps
  • demonstrate the ability to communicate irrigation system requirements to a supplier or service industry representative.
Length: 1 day
Course program/structure:
  • theory indoors
  • practical demonstration using a pump model
  • more theory indoors with worked examples
  • exercise in pump selection.
Resources and method of delivery: Participants will be provided with a course manual.

This course is mainly delivered indoors.

Accreditation: This course is mapped to the following national unit of competency, RTE3607A - Measure irrigation delivery system performance.
