Name: Biological control of weeds
Description: This workshop is designed for land managers and natural resource officers who are involved in the control of weeds.
Cost: $320 GST free
Course aims: The course aims to train participants to develop skills and provide an introduction of biological control methods used in Australia.
Learning outcomes:
  • Identify biological control methods used in Australia
  • Develop techniques in rearing, field collecting, releasing and monitoring biological control agents for weed management.
Length: 1 day
Course program/structure:
  • Assessing suitability of biological control for a particular weed infestation
  • Selecting a suitable site to establish a nursery
  • Sourcing and acquiring a desired bioagent
  • Transporting and storing biological cultures
  • Maintaining and monitoring your biological control site
  • Bioagent harvest and release
  • Recording and reporting on the status of your project
  • Evaluating effectiveness and spread of your bioagent
Resources and method of delivery:

Each participant will receive a participants workbook and the new publication - The Salvinia biological control field guide.

This course is delivered using indoor and outdoor instruction.

Accreditation: This course is mapped to the national units of competency:

  • AHCPMG304A Release biological agents
