This course is costed at $792, but due to subsidies from Dairy Australia and the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) this course is free. |
| Course aim: |
- To assist dairy farmers to increase the profitability and productivity of their farms through better pasture management and more strategic use of supplements.
- To assist farmers to better understand the key profit drivers in a pasture based dairy farming system.
- To demonstrate how improving the Feedbase management will optimise the use of resources in their farm business.

| Learning outcomes: |
- Understand the profit drivers in a pasture based dairy system.
- Understand the principles of grazing management to optimise pasture quantity and quality and milk production.
- Accurately identify leaf stage of ryegrass and use this to set grazing rotation length.
- Use the Rotation Right tool on their farm.

2 days (4 hours each) plus up to 6 farm walks of 2 hours each. |

DAY 1
- The challenges of grazing management.
- Where is the right place to put the electric fence every day of the year.
- All about ryegrass - basic grazing principles to optimise dry matter production and feed quality.
- Rotational Right Tool - a simple calculator to allocate the right amount of pasture every day.
DAY 2
- Review of the grazing rules from day 1.
- How to feed supplements effectively and profitably.
- Cow nutrition principles.
- Margin over feed costs and profit- what is the most profitable level of feeding.
- Putting it all together.
