Name: Working with People in Dairy: Professional development in human resource management for dairy advisors
Description: A course for those working in the dairy industry to improve farm working relationships and to establish a support network for human resource development.
Cost: $845.
Course aim
  • To promote effective farm working relationships, which meet the professional, financial and personal needs and goals of employers and employees.
  • To develop an industry strategy and support network for human resource development.
Learning outcomes:
  • Improve coordination and direction of staff.
  • Be able to guide staff, facilitate staff discussions and provide constructive evaluation of staff members.
  • Develop a staff plan and roster.
  • Recruit and induct staff.
  • Engage with and assist farm managers, owners and employers to implement changes to farm practices related to dealing with staff.
Length: A 2-day course with a further requirement to complete project and on the job assessment work (40 hours total).

Day 1:

  • Introduction and enrolment
  • Setting the scene
  • Mapping your experience
  • Introducing the People in Dairy resources
  • Understanding key concepts of HR
  • Using the resources (Part one)

Day 2:

  • Using the resources (Part two)
  • Developing your learning program
  • Preparation of projects and timelines for future activities
  • Conclusion and evaluation
Resources and method of delivery:

Participants receive a course handbook.

This course is delivered indoors and on the job.

Accreditation:

This course is mapped to the national units of competency:

  • RTE4908A - Supervise work routines and staff performance
  • BSBSBM407A - Manage a small team
