Name: Develop a whole farm plan
Description: This course focuses on describing and managing your natural resources of soil, climate, water and vegetation. It also considers the people, finances and enterprises on the farm.
Cost: $285
Course aims: The aim of developing a whole farm plan is to define the natural resources of the property; monitor legal requirements, develop management strategies to address natural resource management issues and integrate business objectives and production plans.
Learning outcomes:
  • Determine directions for the business
  • Audit the natural resources and infrastructure of the property
  • Monitor legal requirements impacting on the management of the property
  • Develop management strategies to address natural resource management issues
  • Review whole farm plan
Length: Approximately 8 weeks. This includes assessment.
Course program/structure:

There are five topics in this subject:

  • Obtain and prepare an aerial photograph of your property
  • Write down your vision for the farm in consultation with other stakeholders
  • Describe the features and management of the farm as a series of overlays for your farm map and aerial photo
  • Describe your goal priorities and costings for your ideal property plan
  • Complete your 'Ideal Plan' and produce an overlay of your plan
Resources and method of delivery: Online. All students will be provided with course resources.
Accreditation: This course is mapped to the national unit of competency, AHCAGB505A - Develop a whole farm plan.
