Course details

Name: Chainsaw operation and maintenance
Description: A practical course for those seeking basic chainsaw cross-cutting (cutting timber on ground) and maintenance skills.
Cost: After NSW Government subsidy, $300 GST-free.
Course aim: To assist participants to develop skills in the general maintenance, operation, safety and efficient working techniques of chainsaws for cross-cutting fallen timber.
Learning outcomes:
  • Recognise and apply workplace safety procedures and techniques
  • Check and maintain a chainsaw
  • Safely and efficiently operate a chainsaw
  • Check and review chainsaw operation and equipment
Length: 1 day
Course program/structure
  • Introduction
  • Occupational health and safety and relevant laws
  • Instruction and demonstration of Power Head servicing, problem solving, saw sharpening and general maintenance
  • Cutting demonstrations
  • Participants practise and demonstrate different cuts
  • Participants perform maintenance on saws (this may be done on your own saw) and sharpen saws
  • Final question and answer session
Resources and method of delivery: Participants are provided with the Chainsaw Operator's manual 6th Edition, 101 colour pages with numerous diagrams and photos.

This course is delivered using both indoor and outdoor instruction.

Accreditation This course is mapped to the national unit of competency, RTC2304A - Operate and maintain chainsaws.
