Name: Traditional bush timber construction
Description: A course for those interested in developing skills in the restoration and maintenance of historical rural buildings and structures, and the construction of traditional post and rail fencing.
Cost: After NSW Government subsidy, $240 GST-free.
Course aims: To introduce participants to traditional hand tools, procedures and skills involved in the restoration of historical rural buildings and structures, and the construction of traditional post and rail fencing.
Learning outcomes:
  • Identifying basic guidelines for meeting Heritage Trust Acts
  • Establish the principles involved in the restoration of rural structures and their rehabilitation
  • Establish construction principles of a post and rail fence
  • Identify traditional timber hand tools
  • Select appropriate timbers
Length: One day
Course program/structure:
  • Basic guidelines for meeting Heritage Trust Acts
  • Restoration and rehabilitation principles for rural structures
  • Construction principles for a traditional post and rail fence
  • Tradition timer hand tools
  • Selection of appropriate timbers
Resources and method of delivery: Participants receive course training materials.

This course is delivered using indoor and outdoor instruction.

Accreditation: This course is mapped to the national unit of competency RTC2210A - Maintain properties and structures.
