Name: What does your garden grow?
Description:

A course designed for those with an interest in weeds and to how best manage them in your garden.

Cost:

After NSW Government subsidy $145 GST incl.

Course aims: A course designed to show participants how weeds spread, how to manage weeds in the garden and the importance of growing less weedy plants for the benefit of the environment.
Learning outcomes:
  • Consider what your garden and the Australian environment would look like without weeds.
  • Define what makes a plant a weed.
  • Recognise wider implications of weed problems in Australia.
  • Explain the characteristics of plants that enables them to become serious weeds.
  • Discuss how weeds spread.
    Discuss the various categories of weeds in Australia.
  • Explain the basics as to how plants are named.
  • Develop an appreciation that there are similarities between plants that can cause confusion.
  • Identify services and resources that can assist you in identifying plants.
  • Identify issues for consideration in setting up a control program.
  • Describe tactics that can be used to manage weeds.
  • Identify regional groups who have an interest in weed control.
  • List key problem plants and suitable alternatives for you region.
  • Discuss issues that will impact on the success of change.
  • Identify sources of information on potential weedy plants and their alternatives for your area so you can help in the fight against these weeds.
Length: Half day
Course program/structure: Half day program broken down into 5 topic areas.
Resources and method of delivery:

Participants receive course notes and manual.

This course is delivered using indoor and out door instruction.
