Name:	Feeding the milk business
Description:	A course for those working in the dairy industry to improve their management of dairy feeding programs.
Cost:	This course is costed at $305.
Course aims:	To develop the knowledge and skills of dairy farmers in dairy cow nutrition. To review the dairy farm feeding system and develop improved feeding practices.
Learning outcomes:	Learners will be able to: Determine nutritional requirements for livestock Assess pastures before and after grazing Determine supplementary feeding programs for dairy animals Develop livestock feeding plans and programs for a dairy farm
Length:	A 2 day course with a further requirement to complete project and on the job assessment work. (8 hours formal training and 8 hours on the job).
Course program/structure:	Day 1: Introduction and enrolment Induction activity (group based exercise) Debrief Subjects covered: Ruminant digestion, Food components, Energy, Protein, Fibre, Minerals, Water, Appetite limits and substitution, Homework Day 2: Revision Pastures and grazing Altering milk components through diet Transition feeding Economics of feeding the Milk Business Ration balancing - getting it right Workshop evaluation
Resources and method of delivery:	Participants receive a course handbook. This course is delivered indoors and on the farm.
Accreditation:	This course is mapped to the national unit of competency: AHCLSK202A - Care for health and welfare of livestock.
