Name: Goat care and management
Description: This course is designed for property owners interested in breeding goats.
Cost: After NSW Government subsidy, $260 GST-free.
Course aim:
  • This introductory course assists participants to develop their skills in the care, handling and management of goats.
Learning outcomes: On completion of the course participants will be able to:
  • Describe basic Goat husbandry practices
  • Identify the importance of breeding and selection
  • Assess livestock
  • Identify basic nutritional requirements
  • Identify the role of paddock design and shelter in livestock management
Length: One day
Course program/structure:
  • Basic goat handling and husbandry
  • Nutrition, mating, disease management
  • Assessment and breeding
  • Paddock design and shelter
Resources and method of delivery: This course is delivered using both indoor and outdoor instruction.
Participants will be provided with course notes.
Accreditation: This course is mapped to the following national unit of competency: AHCLSK318A - Rear newborn and young livestock.
