Course details

Name: Beef care and handling
Description: A course designed for property owners wishing to learn a range of practical tasks associated with the handling, breeding and caring for cattle on the farm.
Cost: After NSW Government subsidy $260 GST free.
Course aim:

Provide information to new farm holders on the basics of caring, feeding and the handling of cattle , drenching, vaccinating etc. Provide some skills in understanding the market, breeding and selection of cattle. General husbandry operations, NLIS. Advise on yard designs.

Learning outcomes:
  • Ability at a basic level to assess cattle, understand breeding and their traits and marketing requirements.
  • Routine cattle care and disease issues, feeding, drenching, vaccinating, NLIS etc.
  • Handle cattle on property and in yards, avoiding and recognising stress.
  • Knowledge of various yard designs.
Length: 1 day
Course program/structure:

A mix between classroom instruction and paddock – hands on experience.

Resources and method of delivery:

Participants receive course notes and manual.

This course is delivered using indoor and out door instruction.

Accreditation:

This course has been mapped to the national unit of competency RTE2118A.
