Name: Better bull buying
Description: This course will improve confidence in selecting and buying bulls that suit the beef enterprise and markets and improve herd reproductive rates.
Cost: After NSW Government subsidy, $230 GST-free.
Course aims:
  • To improve producer’s confidence in selecting and buying bulls that suit their beef enterprise and markets.
  • To improve reproductive rates in the herd.
Learning outcomes:
  • To be able to structurally assess bulls for soundness
  • To be able to read a Breedplan based sale catalogue
  • To be able to describe the bull(s) they need for their beef enterprise and markets in objective terms

  • Structural soundness
  • Breedplan
  • Using bull selection to match bulls to production systems
  • Bull management
  • Buying bulls
Resources and method of delivery: Participants will be provided with a course manual.

This workshop is delivered using a mixture of both indoor and outdoor instruction.

Accreditation: This course is mapped to the national unit of competency, RTE4913A - Analyse and interpret production data.
