Name: Horse care and handling
Description: An introductory 2 day horse handling course for those buying their first horse or who are first horse owners.
Cost: After NSW Government subsidy, $335 GST-free.
Course aim:
  • To develop skills in basic horse care and handling
  • To identify the occupational health and safety issues around horses
Learning outcomes:
  • Understand basic horse care and handling
  • Identify the occupational health and safety issues associated with horses
  • Understand horse terminology
  • Identify what to look for when buying a horse
Course program/structure
  • Introduction
  • Occupational health and safety around horses
  • Horse handling/riding and care of equipment
  • Drenching, shoeing and general hoof care
  • What to look for when buying a horse
  • Ageing
Resources and method of delivery: Participants are provided with the colour 60 page Horse Agskills publication containing many photos, diagrams and practical tips.
This course is delivered using indoor and outdoor instruction.
Accreditation This course is mapped to the national unit of competency, RTE2118A - Handle livestock using basic techniques.
