Managing land for carbon – FarmReady registered

This one day workshop is suitable for land managers wanting to learn practical skills and techniques to reduce the impacts of climatic extremes.

It identifies the areas of your property likely to build soil carbon and the areas suited to forest carbon. Participants will develop a plan to build soil carbon at low cost and tailored to each paddock and soil type. Participants are required to complete some pre-course work in preparation for this workshop.

• Provide a coherent grounding in the environmental and economic drivers for bio-sequestration of carbon.
• Enable participants to identify areas suited to soil carbon sequestration or forest carbon sequestration.
• Provide a conceptual framework to understand how some management activities sequester carbon while others release it.
• Produce a property plan integrating carbon sequestration with climate change adaptation.
• Identify effective measurement and monitoring regimes

Prior to the course participants receive instructions and materials to complete a detailed mapping and classification of the property based on landforms and vegetative indicators.

• Forest carbon formation, measurement, influences
• Identification of suitable locations
• Identification of location specific management options.
