Name: Blackberry identification
Description: A course designed for those who wish to gain the skills in the identification and monitoring of blackberry.
Cost: After NSW Government subsidy $320 GST incl.
Course aims:

To provide participants with the knowledge and skills to define the role of the CD-ROM in identifying blackberry taxa and explain why correct identification is important for practice control programs and particularly in monitoring the effectiveness of rust and chemicals.

Learning outcomes:
  • Use fresh and preserved samples and the CD-ROM identification tool to distinguish features and taxa
  • Identify the requirements for and importance of submitting samples to herbaria for formal identification.
  • Discuss correct application of chemical for effective control.
  • Discuss the importance of rust in control.
Length: 1 day
Course program/structure:
  • Blackberry - the significance, control, the role of the CD-ROM.
  • Loading the key onto computers.
  • Understanding characteristics and the subgenus.
  • Identification exercise.
  • Correct application of chemical.
  • Preparation / collection of samples for herbarium.
Resources and method of delivery:

Participants receive notes and manual.

This course is delivered in the classroom.
