Name:	Introduction to pastures
Description:	An introductory course that addresses the basics of pasture establishment, pasture varieties for different conditions and management of pastures for livestock production.
Cost:	After NSW Gov subsidy $205 GST-free.
Course aims:	To assist participants to select appropriate pasture species and to develop a basic understanding of pasture management.
Learning outcomes:	Identify features of different pastures and fodder crops, including seasonal growth patterns of grasses and legumes Select pasture species that match landscape and soil fertility conditions Assess fertiliser requirements Review methods for sowing improved pastures Identify grazing management options to suit pasture growth, livestock requirements and weed control
Length:	1 day
Course program/structure:	Identify pasture establishment and management issues Inspect highly improved pastures (dairy) and planting equipment Inspect and discuss improved pastures for beef production Discussion on pasture variety selection, fertiliser requirements and grazing management options
Resources and method of delivery:	Participants are provided with a local sowing guide and course handouts. This course is delivered using both indoor and outdoor instruction.
Accreditation:	This course is mapped to the national unit of competency, RTE3006A - Establish pastures and crops for livestock production.
