Name: Rice for profit
Description: A course for producers who want to improve their skills in managing rice and maximising yields.
Cost: After NSW Government subsidy, $565 incl. GST.
Includes a field tour.
Course aim: To assist rice producers improve their skills in rice management
Learning outcomes:
  • Develop an overview of the rice industry
  • Describe the key steps in crop establishment
  • Identify key seasonal management decisions
  • Identify timing of operations
Length: 3 days

  • Rice technology introduction
  • Crop establishment
  • Rice pests
  • The plant
  • Planning

Day 2

  • Weed control
  • Nutrition
  • Water use and management
  • Field trip to SunRice
  • Precision agriculture
  • Varieties
  • Rice farm layout

Day 3

  • Managing the crop from sowing to harvest
  • Principles of Ricecheck
  • Harvest and grain quality
Resources and method of delivery:

Participants receive a course manual and crop protection and variety guides.

This course is delivered mainly indoors.

Accreditation: This is a non-accredited course.
