Name: Tactical grazing management for semi-arid rangelands
Description: This is a course is suited for Western Division graziers.
Cost:

$595 GST-free
Includes the Glovebox Guide to Tactical Grazing Management for Semi-Arid Woodlands.

This course is registered under the Commonwealth Government's FarmReady program. Eligible primary producers can be reimbursed for the cost of this course. See the FarmReady website for more details.

Course aims: To assist participants to develop a sustainable and profitable grazing enterprise.
Learning outcomes:
  • To develop a management objective and strategy for each paddock on a property
  • To develop an understanding of tactical grazing management techniques and principles
Length: 2 days
Course program/structure: Day 1
  • Introduction
  • What is tactical grazing management?
  • Forage value of pastures
  • Pasture biomass assessment
  • Grass utilisation
  • Assessing shrub and ground cover

Day 2

  • Introduction
  • Landscape analysis
  • Monitoring
  • Assessing total grazing pressure
  • Calculating stocking rate
  • Fat scoring
Resources and method of delivery: Participants will be provided with the following resource:
  • The glovebox guide to tactical grazing management for semi-arid woodlands.

The majority of this practical workshop is delivered outdoors.

Accreditation: This course is mapped to the national unit of competency, RTE4011A - Manage pastures for livestock production.
