Name: Private Native Forest Awareness Field Day
Description: A field day to provide participants with an awareness of the opportunities and regulatory obligations of good private native forestry (PNF) management and operations on their farm.
Cost: This one day course is free to participants with lunch, morning and afternoon tea provided. To maximise practical exercise experience, numbers are limited and pre-registration is essential.
Course aims: To develop an awareness of the benefits of good forest management on private land and how the private native forestry regulatory process works.
Learning outcomes:
  • Awareness of the PNF process (How do you get a Property Vegetation Plan?)
  • Awareness of the relevant PNF code
  • Basic understanding of silvicultural concepts and management of native forests for multiple outcomes
  • Basic understanding of landholder legal responsibilities
  • Understanding of how to work with industry (including contractors)
  • Identify further training opportunities and sources of information.

9.00am Introductions and Field Day Outline
9.30am Session 1: Understanding your forest (includes practical activity)
10.00am Session 2: Getting approval
10.30am MORNING TEA
10.45am Session 3: Measuring your forest (includes practical activity)
11.30am Session 4: Managing and harvesting your forest
(includes practical activity)
12.30pm LUNCH
1.00pm Field work; forest practical activities - forest health, measurement and biodiversity assessment
3.00pm Session 5: Making it pay
3.30pm Discussion, evaluation and wrap up
4.00pm FINISH

Participants receive course notes and a manual.This course is delivered using outdoor instruction.
