Name:	SMARTtrain Chemical Application (Level 3)
Description:	A course for people that use pesticides with powered and hand-held application equipment.
Cost:	After NSW Government subsidy, $400 GST-free. Includes SMARTtrain� card issue.
Course aims:	This course will help you apply, transport and store chemicals safely and meet the training requirements of: the NSW Pesticides Act 1999. those using and exposed to substances that are classified as hazardous substances under the NSW OHS Regulation 2001. the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) for those required to use restricted chemicals in NSW. industry quality assurance programs such as CATTLECARE.
Learning outcomes:	Determine the need for chemical use. Identify the appropriate chemical. Prepare for chemical use according to label and MSDS. Identify conditions for safely applying chemicals. List procedures for cleaning up following chemical application. Record application details. Determine how to transport and handle chemicals. Identify how to store chemical safely. Record storage details. Read and interpret label and MSDS directions for safe transport, handling and storage.

Course program/structure:	The workplace environment Legislation in the workplace Using chemicals Occupational Health and safety risks Application equipment Residues and persistent chemical management Record and review chemical use
Resources and method of delivery:	Participants will receive the following resources: A reference manual An assessment guide A NSW, QLD or SA State legislation supplement The SMARTtrain Livestock Supplement, Weed Control Learning and Assessment guide and On Farm Fumigation Learning and Assessment guides are optional extras. This course is delivered indoors.
Accreditation:	This course is mapped to the following national units of competency: RTC3704A - Prepare and apply chemicals RTC3705A - Transport, handle and store chemicals RTC2701A - Follow OHS procedures. This course was developed by NSW DPI and NSW TAFE.
