Name: Tactical grazing management for semi-arid rangelands
Description: A two-day course for western division graziers to develop skills in tactical grazing management. The course covers assessing the nutritional value of pasture as it relates to livestock performance, fat scoring, pasture assessment techniques, managing invasive scrub, landscape monitoring and the assessment of total grazing pressure. At the completion of the course participants will have a greater understanding of the functioning of semi-arid environments and how management can achieve better pasture and livestock production.

This course is registered under the Commonwealth Government's FarmReady program. Eligible primary producers can be reimbursed for the cost of this course. See the FarmReady website for more details.

Course aims: To assist participants to develop a sustainable and profitable grazing enterprise.

Resources and method of delivery: Participants will be provided with the following resource:
  • The glovebox guide to tactical grazing management for semi-arid woodlands.

The majority of this practical workshop is delivered outdoors.

Accreditation: This course is mapped to the national unit of competency, AHCBAC401A - Manage pastures for livestock production.
