Top lamb crop (TLC) FarmReady approved

Course details

Name: Top lamb crop (TLC) FarmReady approved
Description: This training held over six sessions helps participants understand and manage the interactions between livestock and pastures so that they are able to adapt their management practices to changes in pasture supply resulting from climate change or variability. Failure to adapt management practices to these changes often leads to poor reproductive performance and lamb survival. Sessions focus on making management decisions for a critical period of the reproductive cycle.
Cost: $810 (GST free)
Course aim: To help sheep producers take a more strategic approach to breeding ewe management in order to improve reproductive performance and lamb survival.
Learning outcomes:

  • Assess fat score of breeding ewes
  • Assess quality and quantity of pasture
  • Allocate pasture resources and supplementary feed to breeding ewes according to their fat score and pregnancy status
  • Select appropriate paddocks for joining, lambing and weaning according to the requirements of each mob of sheep
  • Prepare a grazing plan to meet production targest6 and maximise lamb survival
  • Minimise the impacts of a variable climate on the reproductive performance of breeding ewes, including lamb and wearner survival.
Length: 25 hrs over six sessions (1 x 5 hrs, 5 x 4 hrs). First session is timed to occur between weaning and scanning. Last session occurs after weaning. Course duration is typically 8-12 months but could be delivered over 6 months.
