Native vegetation
When Europeans arrived in Australia 200 years ago they began a process of land clearing and development for settlement and agriculture, which is still occurring today. This extensive land clearing has enabled agriculture to make an immense economic contribution to the country. However, a growing awareness of the potential environmental impacts and economic costs of continued broadscale clearing has led the community and government to seek better management of our native vegetation assets.
