Eucalyptus fastigata

Agriculture primefact cover
Primefact Number: 1082    Edition: First edition    Released/reviewed: Dec 2010

A tall, cold climate tree from the tablelands and mountains of south-eastern Australia; it is a member of the Eucalyptus subgenus Monocalyptus and is quite site-specific, preferring fertile, loamy soils that are moist but well drained.

It is fast growing, moderately frost tolerant and relatively free from pests and diseases.

Timber is not sufficiently durable for external use but is suitable for general construction and pulp production.

Useful as a shade tree and suitable for high level cover in shelterbelts.

Relatively tolerant of competition for light, so needs to be grown in comparatively dense stands.

Plantation performance not well-tested, but unlikely to be as widely adaptable as alternative species.
