Best management practice for retained areas in forestry plantations
This guideline has been designed to assist plantation managers and operators to:
- identify the risks (or threats) to the conservation of biodiversity in retained areas within authorised plantations
- establish baseline information to assess existing biodiversity and to monitor change over time
- manage potential impacts associated with routine plantation management activities
- plan on-ground works.
The conservation of biodiversity and ecological integrity within retained areas in plantations is required under the Plantations and Reafforestation Act 1999.
This guideline is designed to guide planning and operations in ways that minimise impacts, manage risks and conserve biodiversity in these areas.
Specific activities will need to be tailored to each site.
