Irrigation and drainage management plans

An irrigation and drainage management plan (IDMP) is made up of the following components:

  • a written report
  • a base map or plan of the enterprise
  • several plans, overlays or maps that show different parts of the irrigated enterprise and how they relate.
In preparing an IDMP, a manager can analyse the technologies available to improve water use efficiency and crop production for each component of the irrigated enterprise. This can assist managers to:
  • meet consumers' demand for food at low prices
  • meet market specifications
  • provide financiers with a return on investment
  • adapt to water reforms from government policies and regulation
The document "IDMP: Why prepare an irrigation and drainage management plan?" outlines the components of an IDMP and its benefits.

The Guidelines contain detailed steps to assist a manager to develop their own IDMP.
