The Veterinary laboratory manual ('Vet lab manual') is aimed at providing accessible, up-to-date information to laboratory clients to assist in the submission of diagnostic specimens that will be useful. There is also information for specimens collected for accreditation and export purposes.

This 9th edition of the manual is published for the first time on the Web. In the office, the Web improves the usability of the manual by allowing rapid cross-referencing between sections and even reference to other links on the NSW Department of Primary Industries website.

Swine influenza

Prior to recent outbreaks, swine influenza had not been reported in pigs in Australia. On 31 July 2009, pigs on a farm in central west New South Wales were confirmed to be infected with pandemic H1N1 Influenza A 2009 virus, or 'Swine flu'. Outbreaks have since occurred in Victoria and Queensland. Any suspected occurrence of influenza in pigs is notifiable and should be reported by calling the Emergency Animal Disease Watch Hotline 1800 675 888. More...
