Arthritis and polyarthritis
Diagnosis
Based on clinical signs, bacteriological, pathological and serological examination. It is often difficult to demonstrate the presence of organisms in chronic lesions.
Specimens required
- Aseptically collected joint fluid, chilled.
- Affected, unopened joints, with the joint capsule intact, submitted chilled.
- Acute and convalescent serum samples from affected sheep or cattle, submitted chilled for chlamydial serology.
NB.
There is no routine serological test available for Erysipelas.
