Arthritis and polyarthritis

Diagnosis

Based on clinical signs, bacteriological, pathological and serological examination. It is often difficult to demonstrate the presence of organisms in chronic lesions.

Specimens required

  1. Aseptically collected joint fluid, chilled.
  2. Affected, unopened joints, with the joint capsule intact, submitted chilled.
  3. Acute and convalescent serum samples from affected sheep or cattle, submitted chilled for chlamydial serology.

NB.
There is no routine serological test available for Erysipelas.
