Brucellosis - Porcine
Brucella suis infection was last diagnosed in N.S.W. in 1968.
Diagnosis
History and serology. The agglutination test is of use mainly as a herd test, as there is a tendency for infected pigs to cease to react although they still remain infected and false positives can also occur.
Specimens required
- Serum samples (not blood) submitted chilled for serology (SAT and RBT).
- Lesions, submitted chilled for bacteriology.
- Aborted foetuses submitted whole for bacteriology
