Biosecurity's new face

Dr Satendra Kumar.

NSW DPI recently appointed Dr Satendra Kumar as strategy leader plant biosecurity.

He brings a wealth of experience in plant biosecurity, import risk analysis and trade facilitation.

Before joining NSW DPI, Dr Kumar worked in Fiji and for the last 12 years with the Department of Agriculture and Food Western Australia in the Plant Biosecurity and Research program.

"Dr Kumar’s key focus will be in the area of developing and enhancing market opportunities for plants and plant products from NSW," DPI chief plant protection officer Richard Walker said.

"He will also fill the role of deputy chief plant protection officer for NSW and will have an important role in a range of plant biosecurity issues including responses to exotic plant pests, should they occur in NSW."
