A new training program designed to help the State’s livestock producers and agribusiness advisors develop innovative drought management strategies has been launched in Orange.
NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI)’s manager, livestock advisory services, Gary Want, said StockPlan is designed to help producer groups work together to minimise the impact of drought on their livestock enterprise.
“Stockplan uses the latest computer technology to help users answer key drought management questions about feeding strategies and destocking options,” he said.
“The decision tools within the StockPlan program will enable our sheep and cattle producers to better explore their management options in both the early stages and throughout the duration of drought.
“The tools will build confidence to plan and make management decisions that minimise the environmental, social and financial impacts of drought.
“StockPlan is a valuable addition to the DPI’s PROfarm training program, which has been designed to meet the needs of farmers, primary industries and the rural community.
“Individuals can also develop their own plans by working through the home study guide.”
Australian Wool Innovation is a funding partner of the StockPlan project.
A series of StockPlan workshops will start next month, with the first in Young on 27 September, followed by workshops at Scone on 11 October and at Coonamble on 18 October.
