State Government gets behind 2007 Beef Spectacular

Minster for Primary Industries, Ian Macdonald, today announced a $50,000 sponsorship agreement between the State Government and Rural Press for the 2007 Beef Spectacular.

“The inaugural Beef Spectacular will be a drawcard on the rural calendar in 2007 and to ensure its first year is a success the State Government is pleased to be on board as a partner,” Mr Macdonald said.

“This will be the biggest event of this type ever held in NSW. The Beef Spectacular will be held at the Dubbo Showgrounds from March 7-9 next year.

“The State Government will be represented by the NSW Department of Primary Industries, NSW Department of Natural Resources and the NSW Food Authority at the Dubbo event.

“The 2007 Beef Spectacular will see a large number of beef cattle breeds judged in a number of rings (as well as unled categories) and a cattle sale will also be held.
“Organisers are also taking bookings for general interest displays, special beef industry stalls, educational activities and stands and there will be industry events across the three days.”

Mr Macdonald said that the State’s livestock industries have taken a real battering from the drought in recent years.

“However, the Beef Spectacular will provide an opportunity for rural people to compete against one another and also enjoy the social side of an event of this nature,” he said.

“About $50,000 dollars in prize money will be up for grabs among competitors – that will be sure to lure a large number of entries.

“Each of the NSW Government agencies involved in the 2007 Beef Spectacular will have stands and will also participate in the scheduled information talks.

“This will provide all sections of the industry, from livestock producers through to auctioneers and processors, with the opportunity to hear the latest developments on the National Livestock Identification System, drought assistance, natural resource management and food handling and safety.”
