Beef producers on the NSW North West Slopes will have an opportunity to learn about several free computer-based tools which can be used to improve their enterprise profitability at a seminar in Tamworth in two weeks.
The “Tooling Up Your Profits” seminar will be held on Wednesday 15 June at the Sustainable Farming Systems Centre at Tamworth, starting at 9am.
NSW Department of Primary Industries livestock officer and seminar organiser Alastair Rayner said the seminar would focus on several new tools developed by Meat & Livestock Australia and NSW DPI.
“The tools address key areas of beef production, including accessing abattoir feedback, meeting carcase specifications, achieving eating quality and managing herd health.
“They all focus ultimately on increasing producer profits”.
Mr Rayner said there were many ways producers could become more profitable.
“These include receiving higher returns for their cattle by better meeting market specifications,” he said.
“Unfortunately, many producers are not aware of the money they are missing out on when they fail to meet specifications.
“The seminar will help producers find out where and how they can get this money next time they sell cattle”. The seminar program will also focus on the costs incurred through poor health management. Dr Mandi Carr from the LHPA in Bathurst will discuss how producers can calculate their own costs and potential returns through a health management program.
The “Tooling Up Your Profits” Seminar is a free day organised by NSW DPI in conjunction with MLA’s More Beef from Pastures program.
Lunch will be available for purchase on the day. For catering purposes producers are required to RSVP by Tuesday 10 June on 02 6763 1266 or to Alastair.rayner@industry.nsw.gov.au
