Anglers in NSW now have access to the latest information on fishing rules, bag and size limits and safety advice with the release of the 2006-2007 Saltwater and Freshwater Fishing Guides.
About 300 thousand of the free guides will be distributed to fishing licence outlets across NSW for the fourth year in a row.
The guides contain everything recreational fishers need to know to enjoy a great day’s fishing.
Both the freshwater and saltwater guides are produced by the NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI), and are funded by the Recreational Fishing Trusts. Money raised from the sale of the recreational fishing fee is placed into two trusts, one for saltwater and one for fresh water and is spent on projects to improve recreational fishing in NSW.
The guides detail up-to-date fishing rules such as bag and size limits, help anglers identify what species they’ve caught, provide handy fishing tips and safety advice, and give information about our aquatic environment.
These easy-to-understand publications are a key part of the State Government’s commitment to helping the community and recreational fishers take care of our aquatic environment so we can continue to enjoy it into the future.
Both guides also contain information about the fishing fee, recreational fishing havens, protected areas such as aquatic reserves and marine parks, and rock fishing safety tips.
For freshwater anglers there’s lots of information on DPIs fish stocking programme, the type of nets and traps which can be used and a list of all notified trout waters.
The saltwater guide contains specific information on gear and tackle restrictions, fish aggregating devices (FADs), nets and traps, knots and rigs, invertebrates and diving and spearfishing.
The free guides are available from NSW DPI offices, fishing fee agents like bait and tackle shops, from Fishcare volunteers, or follow these links:
