Shoalhaven City Council will receive $12,000 to build three fish cleaning tables at Sanctuary Point, Lake Conjola and Greenwell Point after successfully applying for a  Recreational Fishing Trusts grant from the State Government, Primary Industries Minister Ian Macdonald said today.

Minister Macdonald said the three fish cleaning tables would be located near popular  recreational fishing spots.

“Shoalhaven City Council applied for funding from the Trust following public requests for fish cleaning facilities. The Council will also contribute $12,000 to the project,” Minister Macdonald said.

“Council identified a need to provide a high standard facility for recreational anglers to gather together and clean fish at the end of a day’s outing.

“The Council felt the facilities would attract more anglers to the area with flow on effects to the local economy, as well as providing a valuable social meeting place for anglers to exchange fishing information.

“The environment will also benefit through reduced litter in these areas.”

NSW DPI Senior Manager Recreational Fisheries Bryan van der Walt said anyone could apply to the Recreational Fishing Trusts for funding including fishing clubs and organisations, councils, community groups, individuals and so forth.

“All money raised by the NSW Recreational Fishing Fee is placed into the Recreational Fishing Trusts and spent on improving recreational fishing in NSW.

“These trusts are regulated by law and overseen by two committees made up of recreational fishers - one for saltwater and one for freshwater,” he said.
