Two fish cleaning tables for Lake Cathie

Lake Cathie Landcare Group will receive $1,350 to build two fish cleaning tables at Lake Cathie after successfully applying for a Recreational Fishing Trust grant from the State government.

The two steel fish cleaning tables will be located near popular recreational fishing spots for residents and tourists.

NSW DPI Recreational Fisheries Manager, John Diplock said one table would be installed on the southern shore of the lake in Aqua Reserve and the other directly opposite on the northern shore in Jabiru Reserve, next to the boat ramp.

“The Landcare Group applied for funding from the Trust following public requests for fish cleaning facilities.  The Lake Cathie Landcare Group and the Lake Cathie Amateur Fishing Club have volunteered to assist with construction,” Mr Diplock said.

“Port Macquarie-Hastings Council identified a need to provide a high standard facility for recreational anglers to gather together and clean fish at the end of a day’s outing.

“Anyone can apply to the Recreational Fishing Trusts for funding including fishing clubs and organisations, councils, community groups and individuals.

“All money raised by the NSW Recreational Fishing Fee is placed into the Recreational Fishing Trusts and spent on improving recreational fishing in NSW.

“These trusts are regulated by law and overseen by two committees made up of recreational fishers - one for saltwater and one for freshwater,” he said.
