NSW Minister for Mineral Resources Ian Macdonald today offered condolences to the family of a man who died in a Lithgow coal mine last night.
The incident is currently being investigated by the NSW Department of Primary Industries’ Mine Investigations Unit and the exact cause of the fatal injuries is not yet known.
The incident occurred at Angus Place Underground Coal mine near Lithgow in the State’s Central West. The man was employed by Fuchs Lubricants, which supplies hydraulic fluid to the mine for the operation of equipment.
“This tragic accident is devastating for the family of the deceased man, his colleagues and no doubt the entire Lithgow community,” Mr Macdonald said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been touched by this unfortunate accident.
“The NSW Government will continue to work with the industry and unions to reduce the number of mining accidents in NSW, for the benefit of the 15,000 men and women who work in and around our mines every day.”
