Appointment of Executive Director Mineral Resources
NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) Director-General, Dr Richard Sheldrake, today announced the appointment of Brad Mullard to the position of Executive Director, Mineral Resources.
"I am happy to welcome Mr Mullard to the DPI’s Senior Executive Team," Dr Sheldrake said.
"Mr Mullard will be responsible for leading the State’s mineral resources to facilitate profitable and sustainable development, effective environmental management, and safe and responsible mining.
"This is a crucial role with mineral and metal exports alone worth approximately $13 billion each year and NSW being a major exporter of coal with the Port of Newcastle the largest coal terminal in the world.
"Mr Mullard brings with him a wealth of experience, having been involved in the exploration and mining industry for 29 years.
"He has held a number of senior positions in Government and private industry and is widely respected."
Dr Sheldrake said Mr Mullard is known for his sound knowledge of the State’s mineral resources.
"He is currently chairman of the NSW Mine Subsidence Board, and also a key member of the National Low Emission Coal Council, the National Carbon Storage Taskforce, and the NSW Clean Coal Council," he said.
"Mr Mullard’s achievements include establishing the NSW Clean Coal program, and helping to establish the NSW Coal Compensation Board.
"He has also been involved in managing and organising joint projects with other organisations such as the CSIRO, universities, Geoscience Australia and private companies.
"Mr Mullard brings proven leadership and management skills to the position in a range of areas including finance, community consultation and planning."
He began his career as a coal geologist, after graduating with a bachelor of Science Degree, majoring in Geology from the University of Newcastle in 1978.
Mr Mullard is based at NSW DPI’s Mineral Resources Centre at Maitland.
