Phoma tracheiphila is an exotic plant pest causing Mal secco. This disease is a serious threat to Australia’s citrus industry. If symptoms are seen it must be reported promptly to the Exotic Plant Pest Hotline 1800 084 881.

Mal secco is a fungal disease caused by Phoma tracheiphila. After initial infection the fungus spreads systemically in the tree killing infected limbs and eventually the whole tree.

Mal secco is Italian for “dry disease”. Mal secco is a plant disease and is not harmful to people or animals.
