How agricultural conditions statuses were determined prior to 2013
The agricultural conditions maps were prepared from information provided by the 14 Livestock Health and Pest Authorities (formerly provided by RLPBs) around the state, rainfall details from the Bureau of Meteorology and reports from Department of Primary Industries regional staff.
Drought classification of an area took into account the following factors:
- a review of historic rainfall records for the area
- pasture availability
- climatic events such as frosts
- seasonal factors such as pasture growing seasons
- livestock conditions
- water availability.
A new agricultural conditions map was released each month and the agricultural conditions status of the Livestock Health and Pest Authority districts in NSW was also updated monthly.
Once the monthly statuses were announced by the minister, they took effect from the first day of the month, regardless of when the announcement took place.
