Name:Livestock safe handling & welfare
Description:This course is designed to help people working with livestock reduce the risk of injuries and fatalities by providing practical skills and knowledge on safe livestock handling techniques.

Course aim:

This course is aimed to provide those working with livestock safe techniques to reduce the risk of injuries and fatalities when handling livestock.

Learning outcomes: At completion of this course landholders will have the knowledge and practical experience to handle livestock efficiently to ensure minimum stress to livestock.

Course program/structure:
  • Provide basic techniques for handling and moving of livestock
  • Minimise stress to livestock when handling
  • Ability to work livestock in a controlled and safe environment
  • Knowledge of general husbandry operations including disease, feeding, diet, water, vaccinations, drenching
Resources and method of delivery:

Participants receive a course manual.

This course is delivered using indoor and outdoor instruction.


This course is mapped to the following national units of competency:

  • AHCLSK210A - Muster and move livestock
  • AHCLSK205A - Handle livestock using basic techniques
  • AHCOHS201A - Participate in OHS processes.
