Prograze® - PROfarm course

Course details

Description:This course is run in the field and provides skills for participants to assess pasture characteristics influencing pasture and animal production and to develop pasture and livestock management plans.

Landholders in some catchment areas may be eligible for further subsidies for this course.

Course aims:
  • To visually assess pasture quantity and quality
  • To understand how pasture quality and quantity impact on animal production
  • Assess livestock fat scores
  • To use pasture and livestock assessment as a basis for matching pastures to livestock requirements
  • Use grazing management to improve the productivity and sustainability of pastures
Learning outcomes:
  • Assess the pasture characteristics influencing pasture and animal production
  • Use pasture assessments to predict livestock production
  • Develop a pasture management plan
  • Develop a livestock management plan
  • Develop a grazing plan
Length:A series of eight workshops (36 hours total)

  • Fodder budgeting and grazing for worm control
  • Putting it together
Resources and method of delivery: Participants will receive a course manual.

This practical workshop series is mainly delivered on farms.

Accreditation: This course is mapped to the following national unit of competency, AHCLSK402A - Develop livestock feeding plans.
