Thousands of angling enthusiasts to take part in fishing clinic

Keen anglers can learn all the latest on fishing tips, equipment and regulations at a fishing clinic being held during the Sydney International Boat Show this week.

NSW Minister for Primary Industries said the Yamaha Fishing Clinic is one of the most popular attractions at the show, which is being held again at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre at Darling Harbour.

“About 100,000 people attend the show each year and at least half of those are there primarily to indulge their passion for fishing,” he said.

“The clinic is the perfect opportunity for anglers to learn all the latest from experts in the field, while Fisheries officers from the Department of Primary Industries will also be on hand to answer any questions regarding the regulations covering recreational fishing in NSW.”

Presenters at the clinic include Dick Lewers, Bruce Schumacher, Ian Miller and Phil Atkinson, recognised leaders in the recreational fishing sector.

Mr Macdonald, who officially launched the clinic today, said topics covered will include fishing equipment, responsible fishing, size and bag limits, and tips to improve techniques.

He said the State Government was a strong supporter of recreational fishing, establishing the two Recreational Fishing Trusts to oversee the expenditure of funds raised by the sale of recreational fishing licences.

‘Projects funded in the Sydney area to boost recreational angling include the installation of three Fish Attracting Devices (FADS) off Broken Bay, Botany Bay and Port Hacking, and the establishment of a recreational fishing haven in Botany Bay,” Mr Macdonald said.

The Sydney International Boat Show is organised by the Boating Industry Association of NSW and runs from today until August 2.

The NSW DPI stand is located in Hall 4 of the Exhibition Centre.
