Learn fishing secrets at kid’s workshop

Coffs Harbour youngsters can see their Mum and Dad’s recreational fishing fees in action when they attend a kids fishing workshop early in January.

The workshop, which is funded from the Recreational Fishing Trusts, will be held on 4 January at Coffs Harbour Jetty.

“This is a great opportunity for young people between the ages of eight and fourteen to learn about fishing,” said Department of Primary Industries fisheries education officer Mark Asquith.

“Children who attend this will learn about fishing techniques, bag and size limits and ethical fishing practices.

“They will also get to take home a rod, reel and tackle box, all for a cost of $40 for each child.”

Mr Asquith said places in the workshop would be limited to 25, so bookings are essential.

Mr Asquith said fishing workshops were run around the state as part of the NSW Government’s commitment to teach children about recreational fishing and conservation.

“The morning will be devoted to learning about fish and where they live,” Mr Asquith said.

“The young fisher’s will then get a chance to put their new found skills into action.”

Bookings and payment can be made by telephoning 02 9527 8523 by 3 January.
