Blue Shark Prionace glauca

Distribution: An oceanic, circum-global shark that inhabits tropical and sub-tropical waters. This shark occurs from the surface to at least 150m deep.  

Size: Maximum size up to around 4m in length.  

Characteristics: Dorsal colouration dark blue becoming bright on the sides and abruptly white underneath. The body is normally long and slender with a long snout and extremely long, narrow, pointed pectoral fins and a dorsal fin that originates well after the rear edge of the pectoral fin.  

Confusing species: Similar in colour to the mako shark.
