OISAS Review

The NSW Oyster Industry Sustainable Aquaculture Strategy (OISAS) is the key management and policy document for the NSW oyster industry. OISAS contains:

  • Best practice guidelines;
  • A code of conduct;
  • Identification of areas where oyster farming is a priority intended outcome known as Priority Oyster Aquaculture Areas;
  • Water quality protection and improvement measures; and
  • Streamlined approval for oyster leases in Priority Oyster Aquaculture Areas.

The strategy was gazetted in December 2006 and incorporated a 5 year review that is now due.  An inter-agency OISAS review working group has been established under the stewardship of the State Aquaculture Steering Committee and the Peak Oyster Advisory Group is the key industry liaison group for the review.
