Draft NSW landbased Sustainable Aquaculture Strategy

The NSW Land Based Sustainable Aquaculture Strategy (NSWLBSAS) is being developed to promote a vibrant land based aquaculture industry in NSW which is developed in a sustainable and responsible manner.

The strategy is a "whole of government" approach aimed at streamlining aquaculture development approvals and promoting the use of "best practice" by industry.

The draft NSWLBSAS consists of two parts. Part 1 provides an overview of aquaculture and planning processes.

Part 2 of the draft NSWLBSAS seeks to streamline the approvals process for aquaculture farms under State Environmental Planning Policy No 62 - Sustainable Aquaculture and outline the best practice for species and site selection, design and operation of farms.

The best practice section provides the basis for an Aquaculture Industry Development Plan for land based aquaculture in NSW under the provisions of the Fisheries Management Act 1994.

Copies of the draft NSWLBSAS can be downloaded using the links below or contact NSW DPI on 02 4982 1232.
