Seafood Industry Advisory Council

The terms of membership of Seafood Industry Advisory Council (SIAC) expired in July 2010 and no further body has been appointed pending a consultative body review.

A review into commercial fisheries policy, management and administration is currently being conducted by an independent review panel comprised of three experienced individuals with extensive expertise and background in both national and international fisheries management.

The reviewers are conducting an appraisal of the current policy, management and administrative frameworks within the NSW commercial fisheries sector. The reviewers will prepare a report for the Minister of Primary Industries which aims to provide strategic advice across the above three aspects. One of the six Review - Terms of Reference is ‘review of consultation framework’. It is anticipated that the reviewers report (which is due by March 2012) will provide recommendations (if appropriate) on a new advisory structure.
