Lower Murray Darling

The Lower Murray Darling Catchment occupies an area of approximately 6.3 million hectares.

The catchment includes the Willandra Lakes World Heritage Area, Lake Victoria and Menindee Lakes.

Habitats

There are two especially significant areas of aquatic habitat within this region:

  • the lower Murray, and
  • the lowland Darling.

Barriers to fish passage

Weirs are on the significant barriers to fish passage. A report of reducing the impact of weirs in this region is available.
